MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute is proud to offer a key selection of Public Safety and Homeland Security Courses utilizing the best practices of organizations from around the nation, including U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of State, other governmental agencies (OGAs), federal, state and municipal-level public safety organizations, and the private sector.

Who Should Attend?

All of our Public Safety and Homeland Security training courses are ideal for individuals desiring a career in the public safety, homeland security, and emergency management sectors. The program also may serve as professional development and career enhancement to professionals currently serving in the industry as it is current and consistent with industry best practices and associated tactics, techniques, and procedures.  We also recommend some of the courses (indicated with a *) for administrators and management within school and college settings, event security guards, bodyguards, trauma doctors/nurses, lifeguards, and corporations.

10/14-11/8: Tactical Fitness for the Public Safety Professional – 20 day course  (160 hours)
This course provides the practical skills for developing individual and organizational fitness, including physical, nutritional, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. It additionally contrasts the benefits of tactical/functional fitness versus traditional fitness training programs. The course is physically challenging as it is designed to replicate many of the real-world requirements that an individual will face when seeking a career in the public safety, homeland security, and emergency management sectors. Extensive professional and business development labs are included within the curriculum, to include resume and job application workshops as well as subject matter expert guest lecturers and industry recruiters.
Cost: Fee for the course is $9,120.
NOTE: Travel, hotel, and meals are not included. This program is pending WIOA and GI Bill approval.

11/11-11/22: * Active Shooter Assailant Strategies for the Public Safety Professional – 10 day course (80 hours)
The course curriculum delivers a historical/case studies perspective of active shooter/assailant incidents internationally and details how the public safety and civilian response has evolved to the modern-day era. The training program is designed for the purpose of identifying threat mitigation strategies in the event of an active shooter/assailant crisis.  The course places a significant emphasis on active shooter scenario-based training and will involve each student in a number of roles within the confines of several confined space and open-air environment simulated active shooter/assailant events.
Cost: Fee for the course is $4,560.

12/2-12/13: Public Safety Foreign Affairs Counter Threat – 10 day course  (80 hours)
This course is a pre-deployment training program for public safety personnel whose duties will include liaison and/or physical assignments in foreign/international and/or high-threat environments.   It includes topics such as Terrorist Attack Cycle, Personal Protective Measures, Driving Security, Apprehension Avoidance, Hostage Survival, and Explosive Devices Recognition.  Professional and business development labs are included within the curriculum, to include resume and job application workshops as well as subject matter expert guest lecturers and industry recruiters.
Cost: Fee for the course is $4,560.

1/6-1/31: Security and Investigative Services Professional – 20 day course (160 hours)
The Security and Investigative Services Professional Course is a very comprehensive training program that provides the fundamental skills for successful careers in the public and private sector security industry. The tactics, techniques, and procedures delivered during the program are based on real-world, proven best practices that are currently being used by professionals in the field.  The course curriculum includes a significant emphasis on the physical security of property, material assets, and personnel as well as the associated investigative and intelligence-related responsibilities and duties associated with the demands of the career field. Extensive professional and business development labs are included within the curriculum, to include resume and job application workshops as well as subject matter expert guest lecturers and industry recruiters.

2/10-2/21: * Instructional Skills for the Public Safety Professional – 10 day course  (80 hours)
The course provides the foundational skills for developing public safety instructors, briefers, and presenters using the “Systems Approach to Training” and the “Instructional Systems Design/ADDIE” models for adult learners.  Extensive professional and business development labs are included within the curriculum, to include industry networking and subject matter expert guest lecturers and industry recruiters.
Cost: Fee for the course is $4,560.

3/2-3/20: Public Safety Firearms Instructor – 15 day course  (120 hours)
There are literally hundreds of public safety-related / officer-involved shootings that occur every year in our nation. It is absolutely paramount that public safety professionals receive the proper training and certification with respect to their duty-carry firearms as well as the associated supporting firearms that they may need to utilize. The course curriculum places a significant emphasis on the fundamentals of firearm safety, U.S. Constitutional use of force, tactical/combat marksmanship, extensive live-fire evaluations, and instructor delivery and scenario development skills. The Public Safety Firearms Instructor Course was designed and developed for personnel desiring a career in the public or private sector as a firearms instructor, range safety officer, emergency management exercise planner, training officer, security manager, security specialist, investigator, executive protection specialist, intelligence specialist, and similar related occupational fields of the public safety, homeland security, and emergency management sectors.
Cost: Fee for the course is $6,840.

3/30-4/3: * Wilderness Skills for the Public Safety Professional – 5 day course  (40 hours)
The Wilderness Skills for the Public Safety Professional Course was designed and developed for personnel desiring a career in the public or private sector in public safety, homeland security, and emergency management sectors. The course curriculum delivers the skills for the five elements of a rural/wilderness survival crisis including, food gathering, water gathering, fire-starting, shelter-building, and signaling. Additional subject matter includes an extensive land navigation component - including terrain association, map reading, use of a magnetic compass, and GPS. An international wilderness component is included which details considerations for escape and evasion of hostile threats and resistance to exploitation and political indoctrination.
Cost: Fee for the course is $2280.00.
