Teaching scuba diving allows you to share your love of the aquatic world with others while doing what you enjoy – being in, around and under water. PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors and PADI Assistant Instructors are the most sought-after dive professionals around the world because they’ve completed the program that sets the standard for training dive professionals. Course Length
Students have one year to complete this program, although with dedication, it can be done in less than a semester.

Hours of Instruction
Start dates are ongoing.  Be prepared for some day and evening classes and weekend dives.

To receive certificates, students must complete all classes and dives.  Students will be provided with a MiraCosta College Certificate of Accomplishment, and all PADI certificates earned along the way.

Career Paths

PADI certified their 25 millionth diver in 2016, an achievement no other scuba diving agency can claim. As you can imagine, there is a need for PADI scuba instructors all over the world. The PADI Employment Board / Classified portion of the PADI Pro Site is available to all PADI professionals from the Divemaster level and up. There are, at any given time, over 100 jobs listed from all over the world. No job on the PADI Employment Board is older than 30 days so you are always sure you are applying for a position that is available for you to work, “right now”!

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.

Successfully completing just the AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows entry into an IE to earn a full PADI Instructor rating.

Dive professionals who hold an instructor rating with another diver training organization may be eligible to enroll directly in the OWSI program. This recognizes prior instructor training and provides a path to become a PADI Instructor.

A PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for six months may enroll in the PADI Instructor Development Course. You also need:

Their mission is to provide everyone who walks through their doors with the highest level of customer service available. Their experienced staff of certified instructors are passionate about helping others achieve their diving goals.  

All of our dive classes are conveniently taught in Temecula or at the beach.  At Scuba Center, they are good at what they do...because SCUBA is all they do.

Ron Bailiff

Ron Bailiff has been a certified diver since 1985, and a certified diving instructor since 1990. His professional diving career, beyond working with new divers or the development of experienced divers with specialty courses, has revolved around law enforcement search and recovery and search and rescue teams.   He has worked with such teams since 1996 and currently is a member of the San Diego search and rescue team as an underwater criminal investigator.  A collateral duty to his employment as a detective sergeant with the San Diego Police Sex Crimes Unit.
