about the machinist technology program

The Machinist Technology Program is a full-time, 487 hour training. Students are instructed in the operation of small hand tools, drill presses, band saws, lathes, milling machines and grinders. Shop math, metal properties, blueprint reading, precision measurement, machining procedures, and a basic understanding of CNC machining will be covered. OSHA-10 certification will be provided. This hands-on program provides the opportunity for students to design and create multiple projects.

GI BillĀ® and WIOA funding approved. For all other candidates, tuition is FREE through the DOL funded America’s Promise Grant (NOTE: A $350 charge to cover administrative costs will be collected upon registration).

If students attend all classes, complete the necessary coursework, and pass the required tests, students will receive: OSHA-10 certification, a National Career Readiness Certificate, and a MiraCosta College Certificate of Accomplishment.

Machinist Technology Instructor

Calandra Crawford has been in the U.S. Navy since 1992. She was a machinist on two ships and a machine shop supervisor on a third. She has three years of experience as a certified master training specialist instructor and was a production and operations manager for over eight years on two different vessels. Calandra helped develop our program over two years ago and has successfully trained over 100 students.
