Phlebotomy Technician Training

MiraCosta College Community Education and Workforce Development, in partnership with PhlebotomyU (www.PhlebotomyU.com), formerly Family Health Services, is proud to offer this excellent opportunity for those seeking to enter the medical field as a Phlebotomist. Our program will meet the guidelines for students to become CPT1 Phlebotomy Technicians dedicated to the art of blood withdrawal. Students who pass the course will be issued a State approved training certificate and be eligible to take a certification examination offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), offered in class at the conclusion of the course. Upon successful completion, participants will be issued a State approved training certificate. Students are required to complete a minimum 20 hour course in Basic Phlebotomy, a minimum 20 hour course in Advanced Phlebotomy, a minimum 40 hour laboratory course in Applied Phlebotomy and a 40 to 120 hour externship at a state-approved clinical lab or hospital site. The externship will be provided and administered by our Phlebotomy program staff.
National Exam fees, State Application fees,
immunization fees, CPR course fee, and background check fees are not part of the cost of tuition and will cost approximately $200 - $400 additionally, paid by student.

HS Diploma or GED, basic math
After you finish your program, you will receive a certificate of completion. You will be ready to try for national certification, if applicable. This exam is offered during the last class meeting for your convenience.
Although not a requirement of this program, once students complete the Phlebotomy Technician program they have the ability to participate in a clinical externship and/or hands on practicum so as to practice the skills necessary to perform the job requirements of Phlebotomy Technician. Students will be assisted with completing a resume and/or other requirements necessary to work in a hospital, physicians practice, clinic and/or with other healthcare organizations. All students who complete this program are eligible to participate in an externship and will be placed in a healthcare organization as close to their location as possible.
Terry is a state licensed Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT1) and certified Phlebotomy Instructor and has been teaching phlebotomy for PhlebotomyU for the past eight years. He has extensive healthcare industry experience, having served as a phlebotomist and as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corman with training in Emergency Combat Medicine. He holds certificates as an EMT and as a Surgical Tech, and he holds a master’s degree in public administration, with a certificate in Human Resources.
