Phlebotomy Technician Training

MiraCosta College Community Education and Workforce Development, in partnership with Family Health Services, is proud to offer this excellent opportunity for those seeking to enter the medical field as a Phlebotomist. Our program will meet the guidelines for students to become CPT1 Phlebotomy Technicians dedicated to the art of blood withdrawal. Students who pass the course will also be eligible to take a certification examination offered by the National Health Career Association (NHA), offered in class at the conclusion of the course. Upon successful completion participants will be issued a State approved training certificate. Students are required to complete a minimum 20 hour course in Basic Phlebotomy, a minimum 20 hour course in Advanced Phlebotomy, a minimum 40 hour laboratory course in Applied Phlebotomy and a 40 to 80 hour Clinical Internship in a healthcare setting. Clinical Internship will be provided and supervised by our Phlebotomy program staff.
National Exam fees, State Application fees,
immunization fees, CPR course fee, and background check fees are not part of the cost of tuition and will cost approximately $200 - $400 additionally, paid by student.

Mon, Wed, and Fri, 5:00pm - 8:00pm
HS Diploma or GED, basic math
After you finish your program, you will receive a certificate of completion. You will be ready to try for national certification, if applicable. This exam is offered during the last class meeting for your convenience.
Although not a requirement of this program, once students complete the Phlebotomy Technician program they have the ability to participate in a clinical externship and/or hands on practicum so as to practice the skills necessary to perform the job requirements of Phlebotomy Technician. Students will be assisted with completing a resume and/or other requirements necessary to work in a hospital, physicians practice, clinic and/or with other healthcare organizations. All students who complete this program are eligible to participate in an externship and will be placed in a healthcare organization as close to their location as possible.
Mr. Otis Stitt is the President of the San Diego based Family Health Services. The Family Health Services Training Center was established in1986 in the state of California, County of San Diego. The center is a private institution that offers postsecondary training to individuals preparing for careers in allied health professions and continuing education to practicing health care professionals.
The training center is registered with the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (www.bppe.ca.gov) and is in full compliance with the California Education Code.
Training programs and courses are recognized and approved by a myriad of local state and national licensing boards and professional associations. All instructors hold advanced degrees and professional licenses and each bring years of experience in their fields of expertise. Family Health Services partners with MiraCosta College to offer our Phlebotomy Technician Training. Mr. Stitt comes to us with decades of Phlebotomy Instructor experience.
Terry Jordan is a state certified Phlebotomy Instructor. He has been teaching phlebotomy for Family Health Services for the past six years. He also holds certificates as an EMT, Surgical Tech, and Emergency Combat Medicine. Terry has a Masters in Public Administration, with a certificate in Human Resources.
